Porsche AG’s Chief Vice President Secretly Visited Korea to Look into the Import Car Market

Imported car market in Korea is growing rapidly, and so some foreign brands who paid attention on China or Japan so far are now turning their eyes to Korea.

Recently high ranking executives of importers’ head offices are taking care of Korean market by themselves. German Porsche AG who set up Porsche Korea last year had Chief Vice President secretly visit Korea recently.

According to Porsche Korea, German head office’s Vice President Frantz Jung who is in charge of overseas regions and emerging markets visited furtively Korea on 20th and left in the afternoon. Mr. Jung reportedly coordinated marketing strategies and targets with major dealer representatives during his stay in Seoul, and also paid a call to the service center of Ilsan dealer.

Mr. Jung’s visit was made secretly as even some executives not knowing it. Mr. Jung is one of the four chief Vice Presidents at the head office, and on his visit he looked around the Korean imported car market, together with Geun-Tag Kim, President of Porsche Korea. And he was accompanied by Nam-Hyun Cho, Director of Sales, who he had acquaintance working together at BMW Group and BMW Korea.

Mr. Jung, who moved to Porsche AG last October, had joined BMW Group in 2000 and worked for several overseas branches. During January through October 2011, he was Head of Italian Office of BMW, and from January 2009 to December 2010 Head of Canadian Office, and during January 2007 through December 2008 Head of Nordic Office covering Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Baltic nations. And from June 2005 to December 2006 he was in charge of Central and Eastern Europe.

Vice President Jung projected a sales objective of 3,400 units, up 34% over 2014 when he met with Porsche Korea staff and dealers. This year the SUV Cayenne diesel model will keep its strength in sales, and Panamera and Macan will also be on the increase. Porsche sports car is to be delivered from the head office and sales will depend on the volume.

In the meantime, as imported car market share exceeding 15% in Korea and Asian markets also showing growth potential, high ranking executives of imported brands are visiting Korea consecutively. Actually import brand B and P are scheduled to have visits of executives from head offices this week and next, respectively, for coordinating sales targets and comprehending local market conditions.
