BMW Group Korea donated 1 billion won on 9th June for helping the suffering families of Sewol ship disaster through ‘Community Chest of Korea’ who is raising social wellbeing mutual fund.

The donation was raised collectively by BMW Group Korea, BMW Financial Service Korea, and eight BMW dealers across the country, such as Grand, National, Deutsch, Donsung, Babarian, Shinho, Kolon, Handok Motors, etc.

BMW Group Korea and the 8 dealers have saved 1 billion won by dropping joining the home competition and world final of ‘BMW Golfcup International 2014’ that is organized by its headquarter.

In auto sector, BMW is the only automaker in Korea who made donation for the Sewol tragedy, except for Hyundai Motor.

Those of over 10 trillion won in turnover with local operations, such as GM Korea, Renault-Samsung, or Ssangyong didn’t make any financial offerings to the Sewol disaster.

Actually the amount donated by BMW is believed to be quite substantial in its value.

The donation made by the top leading Samsung Group was 15 billion won, while Hyundai Auto Group 10 billion, SK Group 8 billion, LG Group 7 billion, Lotte Group 4.3 billion, and Shinsegae Group 2 billion, respectively.

The turnover of BMW Group Korea registered 2.5 trillion won, and around 6 billion won when the 8 dealers are all counted. So, the ratio of donation versus turnover will be equivalent to that for Samsung Group or Hyundai Auto Group.

BMW does defy other competitor importers in the Korean market, in terms of sales and investments for the Korean society.

BMW is scheduled to open a magnificent Driving Center at Yongjong-do in July, that is not conceptualized even by Hyundai-Kia.

President Hyo-Joon Kim of BMW Korea has been emphasizing ‘return to the community’ to the extent BMW have benefited from the local society.

President Kim said “I will devise all the measures to assist necessarily and continuously the accident sufferers.”
