[AutoDaily] Kia Motor gives notice next year in an electric car market. Kia keeps an eye on domestic electric car market while Renault Samsung released SM3 Z.E and GM Korea did Chevrolet Spark EV. Now Kia is ready to show the actions.

December 5, Jung Sun-Kyo, Kia motor domestic goods department head, presented “Kia green car promotion strategy” at K3 diesel launching show. In this presentation, he emphasized that the charging way of combo type will be introduced along with chademo boosting charging way for popularization of electric car.

Hyundai-Kia motor, Toyota, and Nissan use chademo way. Whereas, GM, BMW, and Volkswagen apply Combo way.

Hyundai-Kia’s chademo and Renault Samsung’s 3-Phase A/C were in common use in Korean industry. The Combo way could not get standard certification because it collides with PLC way of AMI business in Korea electric power.

Although Combo way is not the national standard, Kia wants to introduce it for North American market. Kia is planning to launch Soul EV model on Korean market in next April and then, on American market in next June. It is natural that Soul EV is installed the Combo way which is American standard.

The Combo way is strong candidate for next international standardization compared to chademo and 3-Phase A/C. This introduction make a technical preparation finish earlier.

In addition, Kia is building 80 EV charging stations covered all over the country until next April (before releasing Soul EV). Kia will have 120 stations including the existing one.

Other carmakers establish a consortium of charging with the big domestic companies, but Kia builds up itself with sales and A/S base as the center

These stations can be increased up to sales of an electric car. Kia Soul’s sales target is 1,000 unit s for next year.
